teknikThe chairperson of Association of Knitting Industrialists (ÖRSAD), Fikri Kurt has declared that their 2023 target in the knit fabric exports is to reach $ 3,5 billion by expanding two and a half times.

ÖRSAD Chairperson stated that Turkish knit fabric sector provided foreign currency inflow of $ 1,3 billion by selling 165.000 tons of knit fabric to the world in 2011and $ 1,4

billion in return for 196.000 tons of knit fabric in 2012, and said that the sector will easily reach this target in a decade.Chairperson of ÖRSAD informed that there has been a surge of $ 100-200 million in export ranging from circular knitting to product knit fabric despite the economic turmoil in the world, which has been prevailing since 2008, and said: “Our knit fabric requirements are gradually

increasing. Our machinery is growingfurther with 1000 new machines imported every year. Therefore, the sector will easily reach the target of $ 3,5 billion in the event that it maintains its growth rate in the next decade.” Underlying the fact that Turkish knit sector is among the limited countries in knit fabric in the world with its machinery over 18.000 in total, ÖRSAD Chairperson stated that with this capacity, Turkey is second to China having the greatest number of machinery; but Turkey precedes China in respect of fabric quality, and said: “Notwithstanding Turkey is behind

China in respect of the number of machines, its fabric quality and selling prices per kg for the exported fabric are in 60 % better condition than China thanks to its new and modern technology. We can acquire this fact from Eurostat data, European Union’s official statistics bureau. Selling 37 % of 196.000 tons of knit fabric produced in 2012 to the EU countries, Turkey sold 73.000 tons of knit fabric to that market in 2012. The monetary equivalent of this export is $ 427 million. Our most important opponent China sold 84,5 tons of knit fabric in total at the same period, but it can only acquire $ 294,2 million as inflow of receipts. Turkey’s selling price per kg of knit fabric exports to EU countries is $ 5,8 while this figure is $ 3,5

for China. In other words, Turkey sells fabric 60 % more expensive than China.” Making this critical statement as regards knit sector’s 2023 targets, ÖRSAD Chairperson recalled that Turkey’s 2023 target of knitsector for the textile and textile products is $ 20 billion, and informed that the export share of knit fabric hovers around the level of 17,5%.
