Polyamide: The best of times, the worst of times

polyamidThe PCI Nylon symposium takes place on 1/2 March at the HILTON Frankfurt, in Germany. During the last four years the polyamide industry has turned full circle. In 2011 the raw material producers were enjoying record margins and effectively dictating terms to their downstream customers. These downstream customers were desperately trying to pass on these price expectations, while worrying constantly about their effect on longterm demand and growth. Fast forward four years and the boot is clearly on the other foot. Raw material suppliers are now running at breakeven economics and fighting for survival, while many elements of downstream PA are enjoying the ideal combination of unexpectedly strong demand and healthy margins. But as all these entities are joined together in the same production chain, is it any more sustainable now than it was in 2011?polyamid1

The 2016 PCI Nylon Symposium will address this question and more: • With crude oil prices now at their lowest point in a decade, what happens next? Will there be the long-awaited, much-anticipated rebound? If s o, w hen? And what of petrochemical prices which have followed crude oil down, but not in a uniform and consistent fashion? • As PA has become cheaper, demand growth appears to be accelerating. Is this cause and effect, or coincidence? And what of t he competition? Is it also benefiting in the same way, or are some substitution effects coming
into play? • There is clear evidence that the PA investment boom in China is now slowing. W ill this slowdown save the other regions from their respective painful rationalisation processes or is it too little, too late? • Although there is significant application overlap between PA6 and PA66, the two sides of the industry are approaching the current situation in very different ways. What will the longterm effects be of this difference in approach? • Demand for PA in Europe has been better than expected in 2014 and 2015. Are these two years explainable as anomalies, or is it time to rethink the future of the industry in the region? The PCI Nylon Symposium has a deserved reputation for focusing its select and high calibre audience on core issues in the nylon business, delivering valuable insight into the strengths and weaknesses of individual market positions. The Symposium has important messages for business managers, marketers, purchasers, business analysts and all those in charge of managing significant nylon chain businesses. Above all the PCI Nylon Symposium will assist you to optimise market positioning within the broader context of the global polyamide industry and its changing competitive dynamics.
