TIT Innovation General Manager Mustafa Dağlı: “Products of strategic importance must be produced in your own country with the highest possible level of national technologies. As HASKAN Group and TIT Innovation, we focus our projects and studies on strategic products that cannot be produced in Turkey.”

HASKAN Group of Companies is a large in investment company formed by the coming together of 18 companies, in different sectors 6 of which are production. HASKAN carries out its activities in the technical textile, medical, recycling, packaging, yarn and carpet sectors in Kilis, Gaziantep, Istanbul and Germany premises. Having re-adjusted its product range in line with the increasing needs to medical textiles in accordance with the demands and requirements that evolved due to the sweeping impact of the COVID-19, which adversely affected the whole world as of the beginning of 2020, Haskan focused their R&D studies on an antiviral fabric that would not only provide full protection against but also destroy viruses. As Tekstil & Teknik, we had an interview with Mustafa Dağlı, the General Manager at TIT Innovation, a subsidiary innovation company of Haskan Group of Companies.

What would you like to say about the work of TIT Innovation in your organization?

“TIT Innovation is an innovation and technology company which aims to realize the high added value advanced technology required sustainable projects by using national technologies as much as possible primarily for HASKAN Group Companies. With the 3E philosophy it has adopted, HASKAN aims to provide economically applicable and industrially produced solutions that do not harm people and the environment ecologically. For this purpose, HASKAN is bridge between universities and industry in technical textile, biomedical, defense industry and artificial intelligence sectors with its team of experts in their fields, and implements projects that have been academically successful but not industrially produced.”

Could you tell us about the latest developments in the technical textiles sector?

“Incorporating the electro-spinning technology, which has a 20-year history in the World, our company provides services to areas in different sectors thanks to this technology. The privileges offered by this technology provide high filtration efficiency by producing filaments in nano size. It has enabled us to increase the filtration capability offered by standard surgical masks to 99.95% in today’s pandemic conditions. For example; in addition to the meltblown layer that filtration in the middle of the 3-layer structure, which we call SMS in standard surgical masks, we achieve high filtration efficiency by coating the spunbound layer in the outer layer in nano sizes with the electrospinning method. In addition, with the nano coating we have made, we achieve an excellent filtration in the mask, while bringing comfortable breathability to the highest point.”

Can you give some information about the antiviral mask you have developed?

“With the start of the pandemic, we focused on an antiviral fabric that will provide full protection against and destroy viruses with the scientists in our team. In the masks we produce from this fabric, we saw that viruses in contact with the outer layer;

• Destroys 99% in 5 minutes,
• Destroys 99.99% in 2 hours.
• In addition, it provides high air permeability and ease of breathing.
The results were registered in laboratories with international accreditation not only in Turkey, but also in England and Brazil.”

What are the other projects HASKAN focus on?

“The textile industry is very suitable to innovation. Today we are talking to you about an antiviral mask. However, masks also create a great environmental pollution for our World. According to the data of 2019, the unit kg price of the products exported by Turkey is $1.23, $2.70 in South Korea and $3.86 in Japan. The way for Turkey’s economic growth and development is to develop value-added products, produce technology and export them. This is the founding purpose of our company. We are currently working on products with high added value that can be produced with national Technologies in different sectors. These sectors are;

• Tecnical Textile,
• Biomedical,
• Artifical Intelligence,
• We have projects in the Defense Industy sectors. For example, we are working on fabrics that will stop the bleeding of wounds when worn, or dressings that can release controlled drugs. We continue to work to apply the know-how we gained with antiviral fabric on packaging and carpets.”

What does sustainability and recycling mean for HASKAN Group and TIT Innovation?

“TIT Innovation is a technology company that set out to provide HASKAN Group Companies with the opportunity to gain competitive advantage over their competitors and to become the leaders of their sectors. To maintain
this leading position, we develop innovative products in a sustainable ecosystem. The concept of innovation and sustainability is the biggest trump card in a company’s struggle for existence. With these concepts, TIT Innovation enables HASKAN Group Companies to produce high-tech products with added value that distinguish them from their competitors.

The companies within the structure of the HASKAN Group contain the entire process from raw material to the final product and the recycling of the final product, thanks to the cycle it creates among themselves. Our in-house POY facility brings 1800 tons 100% recycled raw materials to the economy per month. We have now completed our R&D work on biodegradable non-woven fabric. We now have the technology to allow the masks we produce to be dissolved in nature within a certain period of time. We also offer our environmentally friendly medical textile products as biodegradable when requested by our customers.”

What kind of future avaits the sector in Turkey and in the world after Corona? What are your predictions? What kind of roadmap do you follow as a company?

“We think that the World has entered a new era with Covid pandemic. The problems experienced in masks and vaccines during the pandemic showed us your country may face a very big problem that no matter how strong you are economically, if you do not produce products of strategic importance yourself. For this reason, products of strategic importance must be produced in your own country with the highest possible level of national technologies. As HASKAN Group and TIT Innovation, we focus our projects and studies on strategic products that cannot be produced in Turkey.”
