Of the rooted companies based on 70 years of past of Turkey, Anadolu Thread Company made an investment in the amount of 75 million dollars in Cerkezkoy and established the greatest and the newest thread factory of Europe. The factory that has a covered area of 55 thousand square meters within a land of 80 thousand square meters performs the single production of nylon chips of Turkey that was imported from abroad previously. The capacity of production of raw materials, intermediate products and final products of nylon threads of Anadolu Thread Company that has reduced the dependence on foreign countries with its factory investment reached 70,000 tons annually, and the capacity of cotton reached 13,500 tons annually.

An Investment in The Amount Of 75 Million Dollars

Having indicated that the capacity of the factory is at the level that will meet 25 per cent of the requirement in Turkey individually, the Chief of the Board of Directors of Anadolu Thread Company, Tuncay Uzun said that “We made an investment decision for a product that was not produced in Turkey 5 years ago. With an investment in the amount of 75 million dollars, we established a factory in Cerkezkoy with a capacity of 65 million tons. Currently, we started to produce 23 thousand tons of nylon thread. We will increase that up to 46 thousand tons. We are glad that we produce a product imported by Turkey. We are a company that has the most modern technology of Europe. Now, we are the domestic vendor in nylon thread. We will prevent imports from China. Our purpose is to export 50 per cent of our production of raw materials, intermediate products and nylon thread”.

Having stated that they made a big production investment to reduce the dependence of Turkey on foreign countries in thread and textile, the Chief of the Board of Directors of Anadolu Thread Company, Tuncay Uzun said that “Now, we produce the variety of threads which cannot be produced even by China in a short time. That provides a big advantage especially for exports. Anadolu Thread Company differentiates from large exporter countries like China and India and from unfruitful competition based only on price. It adds quality and value to the thread export of Turkey”.

Investment Attack

Having pointed out that Turkey’s textile exports increased by 7-8 per cent last year, Uzun emphasized that the role of thread is very important in growth. Having indicated that the thread sector is a market whose labor is intensive in Turkey, Uzun said that they employed 600 persons in their factory constructed newly. Uzun stated that he had persuaded his industrialist friends in various fields while establishing the new factory.2565

Uzun continued as follows: “Before I made that investment, I had traveled to many countries from Brazil to Japan, and I had examined similar investments. When I started the production, I thought that I would use half of the products and would sell the remaining half. In that regard, I persuaded my friends for investment, as well. For example, a friend of mine who is a great carpet manufacturer bought from me and entered into a new investment.” Having depicted that they are very strong in the sector and that Turkish companies became the nightmare of the Europeans, Tuncay Uzun stated that “Italians are worried because we entered into this business. They are in a panic. We are the China of Europe according to them.” Having said that they closed 2013 with a turnover of TL 250 million Uzun communicated that they target to increase the turnover up to 450 million liras at the end of the year together with the factory investment.

Office in Italy

Having noted that they opened an office in Italy and that they intend to sell products to the Far East over Sri Lanka, Uzun said that “We plan our investments in this regard. We will make Sri Lanka a logistic base. We will sell to the countries in the region from there. Moreover, we have plans to produce thread there”.

Thread To The World Giants

Anadolu Thread established a cogeneration plant in its new factory in order to provide its energy for all its production activities. 13 Mw plant meets all energy required for the production of the factory. Tuncay Uzun shared that they had constructed a hydroelectric power plant in Malatya in return for 15 million dollars. Uzun emphasized also that Anadolu Thread sells its products to giant brands in the country and abroad. Uzun said that “Anadolu Thread produces 30 per cent of the production of Turkey that has 8 per cent of the world’s fiber production. We provide thread to suppliers producing for Zara and world’s many giants”.

We Could Not Benefit From The Incentives

Incentives are provided for the products not produced in Turkey. However, Tuncay Uzun said that they could not benefit from the incentives in spite of the fact that the factory was the first in Turkey. Because they put a provision in the Customs Union Agreement indicating that textile companies may not benefit from the incentives while signing the agreement. And Turkey had signed it. Due to the Customs Union Agreement we established our factory without getting any incentives”.
